Getting Started
How do I log my child's language time?
From the dashboard, tap a quick-log preset like “Bedtime story · Spanish · 20m” and you're done. You can also start the built-in timer while you read or play, or tap “Log” to enter minutes on the keypad. Every entry can be tagged with a source — caregiver, grandparent, reading, media, school, music, or play.
I forgot to log yesterday. Can I add it later?
Yes. When you log a moment, tap the date to backdate it — perfect for adding last night's grandparent call from the couch this morning. Logging is never locked, on any plan.
How do I set up presets?
Open Settings → Manage Presets to add, edit, or reorder your own quick-log buttons (for example “Cartoons · 30m” or “Grandma call · 15m”). Tonguelet ships with a few common ones to get you started.
The Green Band
What is the green band?
The band is your weekly target range for a language, shown as a calm green zone. As you log time, the week fills toward the band. It's designed to be encouraging — there is no pass/fail, no red, and no “you're X hours short.” Below the band simply reads “Every minute counts.”
Where does the 15–25 hours figure come from? Is it a rule?
No. The roughly 15–25 hours/week range is a popularized guideline that often circulates in bilingual-parenting communities — it is not a clinical rule or a guarantee. What matters most is steady, loving exposure, not a magic number. You set your own band per child and per language, and you can change it anytime. Tonguelet is a supportive log, not a diagnosis or medical advice.
Can I set a different target for each language?
Yes. Each language for each child has its own band, so a primary heritage language and a lighter third language can have very different, realistic targets.
Trends & the Widget
How do trends work?
The Trends tab shows weekly exposure per language and where the minutes come from (books, people, media, school, and so on). Free shows recent weeks; Premium unlocks long-term trends up to 6 months and week-over-week balance analytics.
How do I add the home-screen widget?
The widget is a Premium feature. Long-press your home screen, tap the “+”, search for Tonguelet, and add the band widget. It shows this week's band at a glance and includes a one-tap log button. There's also a Shortcuts action so you can log via Siri or an automation. If the widget shows no data, open the app once so it can refresh the shared summary.

What's free vs Premium?
Free: unlimited logging (presets, timer, backdating, sources), 1 child and 2 languages, the this-week green-band view, the last 30 days of history, and CSV export — always free, no ads. Premium: unlimited children and languages, long-term trends (up to 6 months) and week-over-week analytics, the home-screen widget with one-tap logging, a Shortcuts action for Siri, and shareable PDF progress reports.
Is logging ever locked behind Premium?
No. Logging and CSV export are never gated — they're the heart of the app, and they're free forever. Premium adds more children, deeper history, the widget, and reports.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — the Premium Annual plan ($29.99/year) includes a 7-day free trial. You'll only be charged at the end of the trial. Cancel anytime in your Apple ID subscription settings before the trial ends.
How do I restore my purchase?
Open Settings inside the app and tap “Restore Purchases.” This re-applies your active subscription if you've previously purchased one on this Apple ID.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open the iOS Settings app, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Find Tonguelet and tap Cancel Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Privacy & Data
Where does my data go?
It stays on your iPhone. Tonguelet has no account, no cloud, no analytics, and no ads — nothing is uploaded. You can confirm by turning on Airplane Mode: everything still works. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I back up or move my data?
Open Settings and export a CSV backup at any time — it's always free. You can keep it in Files or iCloud Drive, or import it elsewhere. Your data is never held hostage.
Can I lock the app?
Yes. Turn on the optional Face ID / passcode App Lock in Settings for an extra layer of privacy.
